2009 was a busy year in the studio, with the following great news:

 

-  My temporary public artwork with Scott Minneman, "Downtown Mirror,” commissioned by the City of San Jose, was named one of the top public art projects in the country for 2009 by the Public Art Network [see http://www.artsusa.org/networks/public_art_network/year_in_review/default_001.asp ]

 

-       In February, I was selected to write an art and culture column for the online edition of the San Francisco Chronicle, a blog which you can see at http://www.sfgate.com/citybrights/authors/

 

-       In the fall, based on my writing the column, I was awarded a writing workshop fellowship by the Creative Capital | Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant Program in partnership with the International Art Critics Association/USA Section (AICA/USA).  Read more about the award at http://www.artswriters.org/writing_workshop.php

 

-       I was appointed to the San Francisco Arts Commission, where I serve on the Executive Committee and the Visual Arts Committee [see http://www.sfartscommission.org/about/commissioners/index.htm ]

 

-       In the summer, I was awarded a Fellowship and residency at the Montalvo Arts Center [see http://montalvoarts.org/participants/jd_beltran/ ]

 

-       We exhibited “The Magic Story Table,” my collaboration with Scott Minneman at 826 Valencia Street in February and March, which was commissioned by the City of San Francisco [see the video at http://vimeo.com/3675874 ]

 

-       We exhibited “Color In/On Cleveland,” also with The Magic Story Table, another collaboration with Scott Minneman, at the Cleveland IngenuityFest in July.  It was one of the most popular features of the greater Cleveland new media festival [see the video at http://vimeo.com/5627733 and at http://vimeo.com/5627842 ]

 

-       My photography work is currently featured in the latest issue of Creative Quarterly, Issue #17 [now on newsstands, and see http://www.cqjournal.com/currentissue.html ]

 

            -       I wrote the cover article for the latest fall/winter edition of Public Art Review, also now on newsstands

More news to come for 2010, including a new film work in March for the permanent collection of the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Monterrey in Mexico, a video collaboration for the De Young Museum in San Francisco in September, and the exhibition in Cleveland, Ohio this fall.
